Parent and Player Conduct
Parent and Player Conduct
Parents/Guardians of student athletes and the student athletes themselves who are enrolled in Mercer
Island Girls Basketball (MIGB) are responsible for reading in full and abiding by all guidelines of our
program’s Code of Conduct. We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment
for all participants, free from discrimination for any reason. All players and parents of players registering in
an MIGB season are required to sign this document.
Parents/Guardians agree as follows:
1. I understand and will remember that youth basketball is for the kids and about the kids. It is an
opportunity to develop friendships, love of the game, and build character through the highs and
lows of competition. If I find myself becoming too emotionally involved in what’s happening on the
court, I will take a step back and remove myself if necessary.
2. I will ensure my player is on time to practice and games. I will ensure my player has a uniform,
court shoes, water bottle, and is well rested. I will help provide proper nutrition and hydration right
before, during and after the game. I will make every effort to ensure my player has a solid night of
sleep before game day. This applies to travel tournaments as well.
3. I understand and acknowledge that myself, other parents and guests/spectators are to be
positive role models in terms of good sportsmanship and supportive fans of all involved in the
trainings, practices, and games. I and my guests/spectators will not ridicule or demean our team’s
players, other players, other parents, coaches, officials, or MIGB volunteers.
4. I understand and acknowledge it is the MIGB policy that practices are closed sessions intended
for coaches, trainers and players only.
5. I and my guests/spectators will support the players, coaches, referees, and league officials.
6. I and my guests/spectators will not attempt to “coach” or “officiate” during games, or any other
MIBG event.
7. I and my guests/spectators will not question a referee or coach’s decision during game time. If I
have an issue I’d like to discuss with the coach, I will wait until 24 hours to contact the coach. I
understand I need to let the heat of the moment pass. I understand MIGB expects only courteous
and well-mannered questions and communication at all times with coaches and staff.
8. I will ensure my player shows respect for all other players, coaches, instructors, officials, and
spectators and serve as role models in this regard. I understand MIGB has a zero tolerance
policy on bullying.
9. I and my guests/spectators will respect the opponent and avoid any confrontation with opposing
players, spectators, or coaches.
10. I will inform the coach of any disability, ailment, or temporary circumstance that may affect the
safety or attitude of their player.
11. I and my guests/spectators will comply with the decisions of the league and tournament officials
and observe all rules, policies, and procedures as established or endorsed by MIGB.
12. I and my guests/spectators will be drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while at any MIGB or team
program or event where players of any age are present.
13. I understand and acknowledge all MIGB program payments/fees must be paid in full when due to
keep an athlete in good standing and for participation in MIGB events. No refunds will be issued.
Scholarships are available for athletes in need. Please reach out directly to the MIGB Board to

Student athletes agree as follows:

practices and games to the best of my ability.
2. I understand and acknowledge I will provide maximum effort in practice and games and will arrive
on time and properly equipped (e.g. wearing practice uniform with equipment specified by the
coach). I understand and acknowledge tardiness, not arriving properly equipped, and missing
practices and/or games affects more than just me and can have significant consequences for the
team and may affect my playing time. MIGB recognizes that illness, major family events, or
significant school events may be considered excused absences. Injured players are expected to
attend practices and games to encourage teammates and learn concepts and plays.
3. I understand and acknowledge that all players, regardless of ability and/or playing time are equal
members of the team. I will treat all teammates with respect.
4. I understand and acknowledge I am expected to directly seek understanding and resolution when
questions or problems arise with coaches and teammates.
5. I understand and acknowledge I will conduct my personal life in a manner that brings honor to me
and my team. This includes school performances, self-respect, healthy behaviors and social
responsibility.
